How many times should you follow up after a trade show?

The answer, first

Between one and four, and you choose which. MeetDrop sends none, one, two or four emails per lead, set for your account or for a single show — four after a booth conversation with a real buyer, one after a polite hello at a conference session. On the free plan it is always one. A reply ends the sequence early, which is the point of it.

How many is too many after a convention or expo?

Four is the practical ceiling, and only for someone who asked you a real question at your booth. Two is right for most expo conversations. One is right for anyone you met in a session rather than on the show floor, because they did not come to your booth and did not ask you for anything.

The number that actually matters is how many you send before they reply. Most exhibitors send one and stop, which is why the second and third emails are where the answers are — not because persistence is clever, but because almost nobody is still there.

Setting it per show, not just per account

A trade show, an industry convention and a site visit do not deserve the same persistence. Four emails is reasonable after a booth conversation with someone who asked for a quote, and too many after a polite chat at a conference.

So the length is set on your account as a default, and any event can override it. The show's setting wins for leads captured at that show.

What stops a sequence early

  • They reply. The remaining emails are dropped — you are now in a conversation.
  • They ask not to hear from you. Blocked, permanently, and never re-added by a later capture or an imported list.
  • They are out of office. Not a reply. The next email moves to the day they are back rather than landing in an empty inbox.
  • You stop it. Any lead can be taken out of the queue by hand.

Why the free plan is one

Free covers unlimited leads and 10 AI follow-up emails a month, one email per lead. That is enough to find out whether the capture and the writing are any good, which is the honest job of a free tier.

Sequences are the part that takes real work off you at scale, so they are what Pro is for. See exactly what the free plan includes.

Related questions

How many times should I follow up after an exhibition?

Up to four for someone who asked a real question at your booth, and one for a passing conversation. Stop the moment they reply — a sequence that keeps running after an answer is the thing people actually complain about.

How long should you keep following up with a trade show lead?

About two weeks. Past that you are writing to someone who no longer remembers the show, and the email has to work as cold outreach instead — which is a different email you should write deliberately, not by letting a sequence run on.

Is it rude to email a convention contact more than once?

No, as long as each email says something new. It is the identical nudge sent four times that annoys people, not the number. If the second email has nothing to add, do not send it.

How many follow-ups do most exhibitors send?

One, and then they stop — usually because the details have blurred and writing the second one is suddenly hard work. That is exactly why the second and third are where the replies tend to be.

Should attendees follow up as many times as exhibitors?

Usually fewer. If you were walking the show floor rather than working a booth, one good email and one nudge is the right shape — you are asking for their attention rather than answering a question they asked you.
