What is the best way to capture leads at a trade show?

The answer, first

There is no best tool. There is one rule: capture the conversation, not just the contact. A name and a company tell you nothing about why that person stopped at your stand. If your method cannot get what they actually asked for onto the record in about ten seconds, you will not use it once the floor gets busy.

Why the contact alone is nearly worthless

A contact is a name, a company and an email. A scan gives you one, so does a card, so does a form on a tablet. It arrives clean and it is easy to count, which is why it is the thing most stands measure.

What it does not carry is the reason. Two people can hand over identical details and be a buyer with a signed budget and a student filling a tote bag. The detail that separates them — the part they said out loud — is the part that makes a follow-up land, and it is the part no contact record holds.

The ten-second test

Ten seconds after someone walks away, can you get onto the record what they actually asked for? Not their job title. The thing they said: the two warehouse roofs, the lead time on the coating, the date they need it by.

1
If it takes a minute, you will not do it. Not through laziness — the next person is already in front of you.
2
If it waits until the evening, the detail has gone. By the time the floor closes there are forty conversations stacked up and they have blurred into each other.
3
If it waits until you are home, the person has forgotten you too. See how fast to follow up.

What good looks like

Split the job. Capture the contact mechanically — photograph the card and let something else read the fields off the print, because you will never out-type a printed name. Capture the conversation yourself, out loud, in one sentence, before you turn around.

That is the shape MeetDrop is built to: the card for the details, your voice for the reason, and the follow-up drafted with both of them in it. You read it and you press send — nothing leaves without that press.

Unlimited leads free, no card. Try capturing a conversation before your next show.
