How do I add the show I'm going to?

The answer, first

Start typing the show's name. If it is one we already know, take the suggestion and the dates and city fill themselves in; if not, type them yourself. Then say whether you are exhibiting, attending or speaking, what you are showing, and what a good outcome looks like. Make it the default so captures file against it automatically.

What each field is actually for

  • The name and dates group the leads, so a recap can tell one show from another later.
  • Exhibiting, attending or speaking changes the voice of the email. Someone who visited your booth and someone you met in a session are not written to the same way.
  • What you are showing is the sentence the follow-up draws on when it needs to say what you do.
  • Your goal is the next step the email asks for. Vague in, vague out — "book a call" produces a better email than "build relationships".

If the show is not in the registry

Type it in. Nothing depends on us knowing the show — the suggestion only saves you filling in dates and a city.

We are working through the shows in the US systematically, so the gap closes over time, but an unlisted show works exactly the same on the floor.

Doing two shows in one month

Add both, and switch which one is the default when you travel. Captures file against whatever is default at the time, which is almost always what you want and is occasionally not — worth a glance on the morning of the second one.

See what adding an event actually changes in the emails.

Browse the shows we cover — each one has a playbook for working the floor.
