How do you qualify a trade show lead in under a minute?

The answer, first

Ask three questions. Are they the kind of company you sell to? Do they have a problem you solve? Is it soon? The first you can usually tell from the badge or the card. The second comes from asking what they are working on. The third is the one people skip: when would you need this? Decide at the booth, not later from a stack of cards.

Three questions

1
Are they the kind of company you sell to? Usually readable from the badge or the card before you say a word.
2
Do they have a problem you solve? Ask what they are working on this year, and listen.
3
Is it soon? Ask when they would need it.

The one people skip

Timing feels pushy to ask, so it gets left out. It is not pushy: "next quarter" and "just looking" are both perfectly good answers. They simply need very different follow-ups, one with a price and a date, the other with something useful and no pressure.

What does not work is deciding later, from a stack of cards, who was serious. By then the only evidence left is a name and a job title.

Scored the moment you snap the card

On MeetDrop Pro, a lead is scored against the customer you described the moment its card is read, so the first question is answered before you have finished saying hello. Say what they told you, a buying question or a next step, and it adds to the score and goes into the follow-up. How scoring works.
