How POWERGEN week actually goes

Sunday, January 17 — on-site registration, 11 to 4

The day before the event proper. Badges collected, the stand finished, and the first conversations happening in a half-built hall where nobody has a scanner yet.

Monday, January 18 — it opens

Utilities, EPCs and OEMs working the themed zones. Every conversation is sharp and every card gets a note on the back. By lunch there are thirty cards and the notes have stopped.

Tuesday and Wednesday — the days the booth earns its money

Plant operators and developers doing their real rounds, comparing you against the stands in your own zone. The good conversations and the polite ones end up in the same pocket.

Thursday, January 21 — it closes

What exactly is MeetDrop, and why use it at POWERGEN?

A lead capture app for people who meet prospects in person. You photograph an engineer's card and say one sentence about what they were after; MeetDrop writes the follow-up in your voice and sends it when you press Send. On a themed floor the right buyers arrive in waves, which is efficient and makes the conversations blur — by Wednesday you cannot tell the utility that wanted a quote from the one that was being polite.

When and where is POWERGEN International 2027?

POWERGEN International 2027 runs January 18 to 21, 2027 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. On-site registration opens the day before, January 17, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

If you are exhibiting in a zone, the people who walk your aisle have self-selected, which raises the value of every conversation and the cost of forgetting one.

Can I buy the POWERGEN attendee list?

No. Clarion states it never sells exhibitors' contact information at POWERGEN. Treat any email offering you the attendee list as a scam — they circulate before every large show. The practical consequence is that the only real list you will leave with is the one you built on the floor.

What does MeetDrop cost?

Does POWERGEN have an official badge scanner for exhibitors?

Exhibitors can order lead retrieval through the show's exhibitor portal, and it reads what is printed on the badge. It does not record that this operator runs two combined-cycle plants, is replacing controls in Q3, and wants a reference in the Mountain West. MeetDrop captures that beside the scan and can import the scanner's export afterwards.

How soon should I follow up after POWERGEN?

The same day, from the show. Most trade show leads never get a meaningful follow-up, and exhibitors who wait more than a week see reply rates fall sharply against those who reach out within two days. Utility buying cycles are long, which makes people complacent about the first email — but the specific one sent on the day is what gets you into the cycle at all.

No card. On February 1 the account returns to Free with every lead still in it.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It runs in your phone's browser, so a stand in a themed zone needs no scanner hardware and no laptop. Sign in with Google or an emailed code, set POWERGEN as your event, and the capture screen is ready. There is an iOS app if you prefer one.
